The Vision

Lake Como holds its light differently from anywhere else in Italy — the water carries the reflection of the mountains, the mountains carry the silence of the water, and between them a particular stillness settles that makes even the most ordinary afternoon feel considered. For Ethan and Mei Lin — an Australian and a Singaporean who had built a life between continents — it was the right place precisely because of that quality: a setting where the distances people had travelled to be there would dissolve into a single shared moment. Ninety guests from Australia, Asia, and across the world came to a boutique villa on the lake’s edge — a place with limited access, a private garden, and the water directly below. Our task was to bring every one of them there seamlessly, so that when they arrived, all that remained was the lake, the light, and the two people at the centre of it.

Two continents, ninety guests, one lake with no margin for delay.

  • 0Continents of origin coordinated for a single arrival point
  • 0International guests transported to a villa with no direct road access
  • 0Logistical decisions made by the couple on the day

Ethan and Mei Lin’s guests were arriving from opposite ends of the world — Australia and Asia — each group navigating long-haul travel, time zones, and connections before reaching northern Italy. A tailored guest management plan was built around each arrival: accommodation across the Lake Como area, private land and boat transfers timed to the villa’s access constraints, and a precise sequencing of arrivals designed to bring ninety people to the same lakeside garden without crowding, delay, or any visible coordination. Every movement was monitored and confirmed so that the day could begin with the entire group already present and at ease.

The villa’s position on the lake — intimate, beautiful, and deliberately removed from the main road — meant that every guest arrival required a planned transfer, either by private boat across the water or by coordinated land transport along the lakeside. With ninety guests coming from different hotels and different countries, the margin for timing error was narrow. All supplier arrivals, setup, and guest movements were sequenced and managed entirely behind the scenes. Ethan and Mei Lin were told nothing of this. Their role on the day was simply to be present with the people who had crossed the world to celebrate with them — and that is exactly what they were.

On the day, Ethan and Mei Lin were guests at their own wedding.

That is the promise.

The Aesthetics

The palette began with what the lake already offered and asked very little to be added. Soft whites and delicate blush tones — the colours of the villa’s garden in June — were grounded by the deep, particular blue of Como, which changes with the light and the hour and is never quite the same twice. Natural greens completed the composition, tying the arrangements to the landscape beyond the terrace. The floral direction was romantic and refined, with soft textures and gentle forms designed to complement the intimate scale of the villa without competing with the view. Light moved through the day in three registers — the clear natural brightness of the ceremony, with the lake’s surface reflecting everything back; the golden warmth of aperitivo hour as the sun dropped behind the mountains; and the candlelit intimacy of dinner in the garden, where the water held the last of the evening’s glow long after the sky had darkened.

An Excerpt
“It felt like bringing our worlds together in one place — everything was so calm, beautiful, and perfectly balanced. We didn’t have to think about how everyone would get there or how the day would flow — everything was already taken care of.”

The Atmosphere

A joyful couple in elegant wedding attire embraces on a boat, with a shimmering lake and green hills in the background.

They had come from far away — from Sydney and Singapore, from cities across Asia and beyond — and the lake received them the way Como always does in June: with a stillness that makes distance feel immediately irrelevant. Guests arrived and gathered at the villa, the water below, the mountains above, and a quiet that is particular to this corner of Italy settling over everything.

The ceremony took place at the lake’s edge. Ethan and Mei Lin exchanged their vows with Como stretched out behind them and the Alps framing the horizon on every side — a backdrop that seemed to hold the moment rather than simply witness it. The water was still. The light was clear. Around them, ninety people who had crossed the world to be there stood in the particular silence that only a ceremony in a landscape that large can produce.

Aperitivo followed along the lakeside as the afternoon deepened into gold, the reflections on the water shifting with the changing light. Guests moved easily between each other — people from different countries and different lives, brought together by two people who had always known how to bridge distances. As the sun moved behind the mountains and the garden filled with candlelight, dinner began: an elegant table set within the villa’s private grounds, the lake still present at the edge of every view, regional cuisine, and the slow accumulation of an evening that knew it did not need to rush. Music carried the night forward, and then dancing beneath soft lights, the lake dark and quiet beyond the garden wall.

A Note on Our Collaborators

This wedding drew together artisans who understand Lake Como not as a setting but as a living presence — a floral designer whose refined romantic compositions worked in quiet harmony with the villa’s garden and the light off the water, a catering team whose seasonal regional menu honoured the character of the lake and its surroundings, and a photography studio whose editorial eye for still water, soft light, and intimate human moments is among the finest working on the lake. Live music shaped the ceremony and the aperitivo hours; the evening found its rhythm and warmth through a DJ set that held the pace of the night. Every collaborator was selected by The Gilded Knot for this couple, for this lake, for this day.
