Emma & Lucas · Cinque Terre, Summer 2024
Perched on the rugged cliffs overlooking the Cinque Terre, the venue — an ancient Hermitage along the Ligurian coast — offered dramatic vistas but severe logistical constraints. Verticality here is not just a view; it is a rigid boundary. Our objective was orchestrating a seamless flow for 120 guests in a landscape defined by its inaccessibility, while coordinating a solemn Catholic rite in a nearby convent. We treated the isolation not as a hurdle, but as a luxury asset, creating a private sanctuary suspended above the Mediterranean Sea.

The site is accessible exclusively on foot — which meant coordinating shuttle logistics, porter services, and a phased guest arrival across a 45-minute window to ensure no one was left waiting on a cliffside path. The ceremony took place in a separate convent, requiring a dedicated transport sequence and precise timing with the officiating clergy.
All vendor deliveries — florals, catering, audiovisual equipment, live band — were orchestrated across a single access window the morning of the wedding. Every supplier was briefed, coordinated, and paid directly by us. Emma and Lucas interacted with no one but The Gilded Knot, from the first site visit to the final invoice.
On the day, Emma and Lucas were guests at their own wedding.
That is the promise.

We balanced the wild nature of the coastline with a design language of refined elegance. The palette was an exercise in restraint: crisp whites and soft gold accents, anchored by the natural sage green of the surrounding vegetation. The floral direction focused on provenance—using local olive branches interspersed with white blooms to create organic, unstructured shapes. Lighting was kept intentionally analog: a sea of candles designed to respect the sacred atmosphere of the site.

“"We didn't make a single phone call, a single payment, or a single decision we hadn't already approved months before. On the day, we were guests at our own wedding. That's exactly what we wanted."”

The event followed the sun’s trajectory. A relaxed, deconstructed aperitivo with sea views gave way to a formal seated dinner set directly amongst the olive trees. As dusk fell, a canopy of overhead string lights and tabletop candles transformed the grove into an intimate dining room. Then, sound dictated the shift. A live band anchored the dinner, eventually evolving into a high-energy DJ set for the poolside after-party, shattering the monastic silence of the night.

This wedding brought together some of Italy's finest artisans — from a Ligurian floral studio renowned for its work with native botanicals, to a live ensemble that has performed at private estates across Tuscany. Every collaborator was selected by The Gilded Knot for this couple, for this location, for this day. Vendor details are shared exclusively with our couples upon booking.
